Volunteering – Doing Your Part
The Chelsea CSA is entirely volunteer run. To keep the CSA running smoothly, members must commit to the entire season and are expected to contribute a few hours of time each season.
Vegetable share members must contribute a minimum of four hours of their time over the course of the twenty-four week season. Fruit share members must contribute an additional two hours to help us manage this additional offering.
Most shareholders participate by covering two or three two-hour shifts at distribution. Distribution shift times are 3:30 PM -5:30PM and 5:30PM – 7:30PM. Alternatively, members can fulfill their volunteer requirement by helping with events such as potluck dinners or the annual farm visit, helping with the creation of the weekly the newsletter, or by joining the core group and helping manage the CSA.
Those who order meat, poultry or eggs must discuss volunteer requirements with the Special Products Coordinator.
Members must sign up for volunteer shifts with their account on VolunteerSpot: http://vols.pt/jBfjRR
We need a certain number of volunteers each week for distribution set up, maintenance, and break down. To ensure we have the right number of people, we are instituting a cancellation policy whereby those who cancel within 7 days of a scheduled shift (as well as no-shows) will be required to serve an additional 2 hours of volunteer time for each cancellation.
If you sign up for a shift and your plans change, please reschedule your shift far enough in advance to allow us adequate time to find someone else to fill the open spot. This will also prevent us from having to send annoying last minute emails when we’re suddenly short staffed. Of course exceptions will be made for medical or family emergencies, but other than that we ask that you please make sure to show up on time for your shifts or find someone to take your place. Otherwise you will need to work the additional hours.
If you are unable to work either of these shifts, please reach out to email@example.com to arrange an alternate way of serving your hours. There are other ways to contribute to our community!
If you need to arrange alternate ways of completing your hours, please contact our volunteer coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
